Common Haus Hall

So Josh and I had to checkout one of our fav local bar’s newest ventures - Common Haus Hall. It was very colorful on the outside, and had lots of seating inside and a nice patio area. We had the pretzel with all 3 of the dipping sauces, and the hunter platter. The food was good, especially the pretzel! They had a lot of beer options, and I liked the fact that they even had a couple of nonalcoholic beer options to choose from. I’d rate them an 8/10, we look forward to going back and trying more of the food!

Guacamole Restaurant

Hi Friends!

Recently the hubs and I had to go check out Guacamole’s newest location in NuLu, upon reading on their website they had started in Louisville’s east end in 2012 and recently made the move to NuLu. Let me tell you, they did a wonderful job decorating the place - it was an instagram worthy space! The food was good, but not sure it was worth the price point they are charging - at least based on what food we had ordered. We got the queso, yucateco guacamole, and enchiladas enmoladas. All food was good, just pricey. The enmoladas were tasty - it was a trio of mole sauce, and we enjoyed tried the different ones. All in all, I’d rate it a 7/10. We will be going back for sure!

Square Cut Pizza

Hi, loves!

Josh and I went to Square Cut Pizza for their half price wine bottles Wednesday, and Josh has been wanting to go here for awhile, so I was excited to try it. Inside, the restaurant doesn’t have a ton of seating, and it is near the Logan St Market, so in a bit of a sketch area. The food though, was quite good! We started with their Juniper Salumi and their Soft Baked Egg. The salumi was good, a lot of it for $9 actually, I just wished they offered cheese with it. The soft baked egg was one of the best things I think I’ve ever put in my mouth… not even kidding. It was so damn yummy!!!! We then chose their Salumi pizza, it was very good the only downfall would be we felt they put too much arugula on it. The service was okay, it took the staff a while to prepare all the food, I was getting a bit hangry I must admit.. but we will definitely be back! All in all, I’d rate it a 7/10.

Porcini

On this year’s Valentine’s Day, Josh and I went to Porcini’s Italian Restaurant. Now, I try to give restaurant’s leeway when it comes to Valentine’s Day, but Josh and I just weren’t that impressed with them. They had too many tables too close to each other, and frankly the food wasn’t worth the price tag. Now I won’t say the food wasn’t good, it just wasn’t worth what they were charging. We started with their gorgonzola salad, then split their carbonara penne, and ended with red velvet creme brûlée. The salad and dessert was good, the pasta dish wasn’t worth the price nor the calories. All in all we would rate it a 6/10. We will try it again on a non busy holiday to really see if it was just an off night, but it’ll be quite a while before we go back.

Tha Drippin Crab

Josh and I went to Tha Drippin Crab for his birthday in November, and we enjoyed it! The food was super delicious, but I will say the one con was the volume control. It was pretty loud in there! Louisville’s own celebrity Chef Darnell decided to open a restaurant in what is considered a not so safe neighborhood, and I applaud him for making this decision to support the Black Community and a less represented area in Louisville. We started with Drippin Fries and they were absolutely delicious!! We then split the Louisville Drip with crab, lobster, and shrimp. It was just amazing! Everything was delicious, but the lobster was a tad overcooked. We will definitely be back!

All in all I’d rate it a 7.5/10.

GOGi 1055 Korean BBQ

Guys…

This place is amazing!! Josh and I went at the end of October, and we enjoyed it a lot! It’s definitely a cool gathering place for small groups, as you gather around the table and cook your own food. It may look expensive on the menu, but keep in mind each meat you order comes with a bunch of sides. We hadn’t realized this and ordered 2 meats and we definitely could’ve just ordered 1! The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was so yummy! We will definitely be back.

I’d rate it a 8.5/10!

Pints & Union

Ya’ll..

We love Pints & Union, and have loved them for some time - I’ve just never blogged about them because I usually forget to take pics of our food!!

This trip in particular I had gotten loaded naancho’s and Josh got pork schnitzel, neither dish had been one of our fav dishes we had ordered there, but we have gotten a fried chicken sandwich and fish & chips and those two dishes have been our favorites of everything we have ordered there before. Josh likes that their bourbon selection is good and it’s NOT ridiculously expensive! I will say I wish they had better beer selection… but the staff there are so kind. We love coming here, and do so often. For a pub, they go above and beyond on their food! We would rate them an 8/10 overall!

Monnik

Hi Friends!

The hubs and I went to try out the new Monnik location in downtown New Albany in May this year (and yes I’m just now blogging this) and we enjoyed it. It was a beautiful day so we ate outside on their patio, I loved their outside area!!! We split their pub pretzel w/beer cheese. I wasn’t a big fan, I thought the pretzel was too large and dough-y but the beer cheese was good! We also split their chilli cheese fries and they were very yummy!! We of course had a few of their beers, we are fans of their beer always! All in all a cool location and good visit. I’d rate it a 7/10!

River House

So… Josh and I may be some of the few who live in the kentuckiana area that had never tried River House, but I am SO glad we finally got to try them out. It has some really awesome seafood dishes, and the views sure do help too! It’s a very nice dinner spot, I 100% recommend! We went with our good friends and we split the seafood tower as an appetizer and then I had their scallop dish. Both were absolutely amazing! We will be back… I’d rate them a 9/10.

Agave & Rye

Hey there Friends!

My bestie Maria and I went to check out Agave & Rye’s newest location in downtown New Albany in May. It was a super cool space, and the food was good but we both thought it was overpriced in our opinion. We started with their pick 3 chips and dip - we picked queso, salsa, and guacamole. We both ended up choosing their fish taco, and it wasn’t super great.. we would get a different taco when we go back. All in all, I’d rate it as a 6.5/10. It would be lower if their appetizer wasn’t so good.

Have you all been to an Agave & Rye location? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Goodwood Brewery

Ya’ll!!!

It’s been months since I’ve been on here, how is everyone doing?! My full-time job has been more demanding than usual lately, hence why I’ve not been blogging. I have quite a bit to catch ya’ll up on - starting with Goodwood!

We met some friends at the one in Frankfort, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with their food! They had a pretzel on their menu and you know I had to try it… it was so good!!! It came with a mustard and beer cheese, both went really well with the pretzel. For my entree I had their chicken and waffles, and I now understand what all the hype is about with chicken and waffles - it was delicious!! I had some of Goodwood’s Barrel Aged Walnut Brown with my food and it was a nice brown ale. I recommend checking them out, I will be back! All in all, I’d rate an 8/10!

Pizza Lupo

Howdy Friends!!

This is the second time we have tried Pizza Lupo, but the first time I’ve stopped to snap a few photos… lol! Last time we tried their Sting Like a Bee (so good) and loved it so much we wanted to try something else on their pizza menu! This time we tried their Salsiccia pizza and their Szechuan Fried Chicken Wings. Both were good, but pizza wise we liked the original choice we made (Sting Like a Bee) a bit better. Personally, I was disappointed in the wings. Mostly because I was looking for REALLY hot, true Szechuan wings similar to those we had when we were in NYC and they just didn’t compare, and for the price ($16) I most likely won’t be getting them again. But we do really enjoy their pizza, and will definitely be stopping by again. Their dining room is so cute too, but it’s not open quite yet. I believe they are looking to reopen it in May. Definitely give them a try!! Pizza I’d rate a 7.5/10, wings I’d rate a 3/10 (because they weren’t hot).

Pearl St Taphouse

Ya’ll …

I am honestly shocked I have not written a blog post about my favorite local taphouse yet!! Pearl St Taphouse has some of the best bar food and a TON of beers to try. They are literally in my top 5 favorite places to eat. Please try them out sometime if you have yet to experience their food and beer. They have a lovely patio area that we enjoy sitting at if it’s warm enough outside. The staff are just so friendly! I love everything about them. My FAVORITE thing there is the Giant Pretzel and Beer Cheese Flight. A lot of times I end up eating two of these and making them my meal. Their pretzel is the perfect temperature to enjoy, perfect salt, and not too hard or chewy. Their beer cheese is even better, you know how sometimes beer cheese is gritty? Well Pearl St’s is not that way at all, I love their beer cheese so much! Josh really enjoys their Powder Keg Dry Rub Chicken Wings, and we also collectively enjoy their Parmesan Encrusted Grilled Cheese with their yummy sweet potato fries. Pictured below is their pretzel and beer cheese flight and the wings, not pictured is the beer I tried there which was the DuClaw PastryArchy Mexican Hot Chocolate Brown Ale, it was actually really good so I highly recommend you try it sometime if you like darker beers!

Emmy Squared Pizza + West Sixth Brewing Nulu

Hey Y’all!

I feel like it’s been a minute since I’ve written a blog post. I’m sorry! A few weeks ago the hubs and I decided to try Emmy Squared out and then we didn’t want to go home so we tried West Sixth Brewing’s new spot in Nulu out as well! Both were amazing!

Emmy Squared had a really cool vibe inside, and the food was amazing! I really loved their greenery wall when you walked inside (see pic below). We started with their super yummy chopped cheese waffle fries - if you are there you MUST try it! We then split a Bad Paulie pizza and it was also super delicious! We will certainly be back, especially after we discovered that the whole Nulu marketplace was connected and that you could order Emmy Squared Pizza while you were sitting at West Sixth Brewing! Really cool! I’d rate Emmy Squared a 9/10.

Our experience at West Sixth Brewing was cool too, I liked the vibe there also. Very laidback and relaxed environment. I admit, we went to the OG West Sixth Brewing in Lexington, and their new place in NULU is way cooler. The beer tastes great at both places though :) I had their ‘Pay It Forward!’ Porter and it was decent, and then for my second cup I had tried their ‘Yuzu Ginger Wheat Ale’ and I really loved that one! It had a really great taste to it. Josh tried the ‘Snake Cake Imperial/Double Stout’ and I tried some of his and really loved that one too! Very great experience, we will be back.. ya know.. when I’m not on a diet :)

Have you all tried anything out in the Nulu Marketplace? What were your thoughts?

La Bodeguita Cuban Restaurant and Rum Bar

Hi there Friends!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day last weekend, did you get snowed in this week?! The hubs and I went to check out La Bodeguita a few weekends ago, it’s been around for a few months now. We had the best time!! It’s this super cute bright yellow mansion looking building on the outside, and it’s very nicely decorated on the inside as well. The staff all wore these cute fedora hats, and the plate ware was just stunning! My stomach was being uneasy so I didn’t get to try any Rum, but Josh did and he enjoyed it! We started with the Papas Rellenas as an appetizer and they were delicious, they came with a few different sauces and it really added some flavor. For those unfamiliar, they are breaded potato balls filled with Cuban ground beef mixture. We split the Arroz Imperial entrée and it was just so yummy!! It was a traditional Cuban rice dish that had chicken, cheese, veggies and topped with a cilantro aioli that also came with plantains on the side. Josh also ordered a side of Frijoles Negros (Cuban black beans). They delivered our check in an old cigar box, I thought that was a really cute detail! We had a great experience and will be going back, all in all I’d rate them an 8/10. Pictures of our yummy food below! :)

The Exchange Pub + Kitchen

Hi There Friends!

I hope everyone is doing well! Last weekend my hubs and I went to meet our friend at the Exchange for dinner. I admit I’ve gone a few times before and the first time I loved it and the second time I didn’t like it (I think it was what I ordered) but it had been a while since we had gone to eat there because last time I went I didn’t enjoy what I ate. This time I am back on good terms - everything I ate there was so yummy!! We started with their pretzel baguette and beer cheese and it definitely did not disappoint! Josh and I split their steak frites and also ordered their goat cheese fritters thinking we wouldn’t be full from splitting the one entrée dish. The steak wasn’t as good as if we were to order at a steakhouse but I’d still order it again! I also liked that they gave us a fry dipping sauce. Their goat cheese fritters were very yummy too - but you can’t go wrong with fried cheese am I right?! Our friend ordered their Nashville Hot Chicken and said it was really good also! I also drank the Tropical Grenade Milkshake IPA from Rochester Mills Production Brewery out of MI and it was the bomb.com! I really loved that beer!

All in all the food was delicious, the beer great, and the company even better! It was a good night, I’d rate them 8.5/10. Definitely check them out if you are in New Albany, IN! They are a crowd favorite for a reason.

Fistful of Ale/Tacos

Hey ya’all! I hope everyone had a great Christmas!! Josh and I went with my mom and dad and our friends to have dinner at Fistful of Ale which is also named Fistful of Tacos. They first came out as Fistful of Tacos and as a food truck and then they got their restaurant store front and eventually started brewing their own beer so they became Fistful of Ale and now have an additional bar menu to go along with their beer. Josh and I had previously gone when they didn’t have their beer just yet and had loved their nachos so we decided to go again and try out their beer as well.

We had their pretzel sticks and beer cheese, their pub fries, and their ugly loaded nachos (you choose which meat and accompaniment combo you want from their good, bad, ugly, vegan, and pesky). I also tried their November Brown Ale and their Belgian Candi Quad, both were good but I really enjoyed their Belgian Candi Quad. I enjoy coming here, I’d rate it a 7/10. If you go, let me know what you think! Pictures of food and us posted below :)

Dragon King's Daughter

Hey ya’ll!

Josh and I went to Dragon King’s Daughter recently and it dawned on me that I had yet to actually review them on my blog. Needless to say, we are big fans of DKD (Dragon King’s Daughter) and have been coming here for a few years. They have two locations, one in New Albany, IN and one in Louisville, KY. We always go to the one in New Albany, they have the coolest 21+ space!

Josh ordered some sake, and for those who aren’t familiar with sake it is a Japanese rice wine. We started with their Stuffed Wontons and they were delicious! I mean what’s not to love about fried cream cheese and jalapenos?!

We then split the Chirashi and the Ballin’ Out of Crunch Roll. The Chirashi is a chef’s choice of sashimi over a bed of rice. The Ballin’ Out of Crunch Roll is one of their cooked sushi roll options and it’s my personal favorite on their menu, it is made of shrimp tempura with cream cheese and spicy crab topped with crunchy flakes. It is as yummy as it sounds! DKD is seriously one of our all time favorite sushi and date night places, I’d rate them a 10/10.

Taco Choza

Hi Guys and Gals!

Josh and I went to check out a new to us local taco place called Taco Choza, located in the Westport area of Louisville. We went after dark, but our GPS wasn’t all that helpful in helping us finding the place! Once we did, we went inside and it was a place that you place your order and they bring it out to you. We ordered their chips and queso (I always order this when going to a Mexican restaurant), 3 tacos and their Mexican Street Corn all to share. The chips and queso weren’t really anything special, but the Mexican Street Corn was awesome! The 3 tacos we shared were the: taco choza, taco chorizo, and baja fish taco. The tacos themselves were just okay in my opinion, I feel like there are better taco places in Louisville. All in all, I’d rate the plate a 5/10. Josh and I personally didn’t think it was worth the drive for us. I have photos below of what we ordered along with the dress I wore, which is from Marleylilly who has the cutest monogram clothing!

La Catrina

Hi loves :)

Recently Josh and I tried out a newer Mexican restaurant in downtown New Albany called La Catrina. I loved the way it was decorated, it was so bright and colorful!! If you know me, you know if I go to a Mexican restaurant I have to try their salsa and queso! We had their queso as well as their salsa trio, and maybe I’m just a snob when it comes to this but I didn’t really love their chips or salsas. I had two of their fully dressed tacos: la catrina and los cabos fish. I was really impressed with both of these, the flavor profiles were really quite excellent so it made up for my disappointment in the appetizers. Josh had the birria and panza fully dressed tacos and he said they were yummy (I agree with him)! Overall I’d rate the place a 6/10. That may sound harsh, but I just love my appetizers and if the chips and salsa suck then I have a hard time wanting to go back but I’m sure we will at some point because their tacos really were very good.
